สำหรับสามบทเพลงเป็นบทเพลงมาตรฐานที่นักแคนหรือผู้บรรเลงแคนต้องสามารถบรรเลงได้ พร้อมการด้นสดของเหล่านักดนตรีเอง รูปแบบแรกของการบันทึกเสียงนี้เรียกว่า “เต้ย” สำหรับหมอลำใช้เครื่องดนตรีบรรเลงคู่กับการขับร้อง นักร้อง (หมอลำ) และ นักแคน (หมอแคน) แสดงเป็นคู่ เพลง Cattle Chasing (ไฟล์ที่ 04 ลายวัวขึ้นเขา-ผู้แปล) เป็นผลงานเชิงโปรแกรมที่มีจินตนาการสูง ซึ่งเป็นเอกลักษณ์เฉพาะของวิเชียร เจอรัลด์ ไดค์ (Gerald P. Dyck) มีการบันทึกผลงาน 4 หรือ 5 รายการ และทั้งหมดต่างกันในเรื่องจังหวะเวลาและเนื้อหา
The first three pieces are from the standard Kaen repertory which all Kaen players would be able to play, plus his own improvisatory inventions. The first is a type of piece called Duey . The Mawlum pieces are the instrumental counterparts to vocal pieces. The singer (MawLum) and the Kaen player (MawKaen) performed in pairs. The Cattle Chasing song (tr 04) is a highly imaginative programmatic piece which is unique to Wichian, as far as I can determine. I have 4 or 5 recordings of this piece and they are all different in timing and content.
