The first item on this reel is a good example of the principle of “praise for hire.” Saw singers have traditionally made a living from the vanity of the nobility. In this outdoor evening performance there is a small crowd gathered around for the entertainment. In the 1960s Lanna princes had only figurehead status after the annexation of the old Lanna Kingdom into the Kingdom of Siam.
